  • Parthian Fortresses of Nisa - Once a residence of the Parthian empire (247 BC - 253 AD), it stretches from the Köpetdag all the way across to the Persian Gulf and Anatolia.
  • Independence Park and Monument - Here, you'll find a 118-metre-high white column which houses the Museum of Independence; a fountain monument with a sculpture of ten Akhal-Tekke horses that is dedicated to the 10th anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence; and the impressive Ertugrul Gazi Mosque.
  • National Museum of History and Ethnography - It has more than 327,000 objects on display. See the various ancient artifacts from different historical and archaeological sites of Turkmenistan, like Old Nisa, Ancient Merv etc.

  • Enjoy a jeep ride to Darvasa Gas Crater, also known as the 'Door to Hell' or 'Gates of Hell'. This fascinating natural gas crater has been continuously burning since the 1970s.

  • Visit the 14th-century Turabek-Khanum Mausoleum, one of the best examples of the architecture from its period. Other impressive structures include the Minaret of Kutlug Timur - formerly the highest minaret of Central Asia which used to form a part of the main cathedral mosque of the city; Mausoleum of Sultan Tekesh, a beautiful 12th-century mausoleum with one of the earliest portals of the east and its unique conical dome; Kyrk-Molla mound; the fabled al-Mamun's Academy of Sciences and the Mausoleum of Il-Arslan, a tiny precursor of the unique Khorezmian mausoleums with a pyramidal cone dome.

  • Nokhur Mountain Village - The small and relatively untouched village of Nohur rests in an unmarked valley of the Kopet Dag Mountains, which make up the border of Iran and southern Turkmenistan. The people of Nohur dress and act conservatively, and their traditions have been able to survive Turkmenistan’s modernization because of the remoteness of their village.
  • Kow Ata Underground Lake - which is located 107 km from Ashgabat. A long metal staircase leads down into the Bakharden Cave, in which the 230 feet long lake is located. The 35°C warm waters contain a high amount of different salts and minerals, most notably sulfur, which is responsible for the distinct smell within the cave.
  • Geok-Tepe Fortress - It was attacked in December 1880 by the Russian Empire Army. The siege of Geok-Tepe lasted 23 days, after which the city was taken by storm.
  • Saparmurat Hajji Mosque - Built in 1995 to commemorate the soldiers who defended the Geok-Tepe Fortress.
  • Horse Farm - to see one of the rarest horse breeds – the Akhal-Teke horses. The AkhalTeke horse is believed to be one of the oldest surviving and purest of horse breeds. The Akhal-Teke is a descendant of the ancient Turkmene horse that originated from Asia and was used by nomadic tribes as a war horse

  • Mary was one of the most important capitals of Islam. Also, it is the oldest and best-preserved of the oasis-cities along the Silk Route in Central Asia.
  • Sightseeing of ancient Mary includes two of the most striking buildings of Merv – Greater Kyz Gala & Lesser Kyz Gala, Complex of Askhabs, the oldest part of the city of Merv complex – Erk Gala & Gyaur Gala, Hoja Yusuf Hamadani mausoleum, Muhamed Ibn Zeid mausoleum.
